Bulletin 9 April 22nd – May 6th 2026
Dear Residents
We may have fast‑forwarded the clocks at the end of March, but there’s no need to rush when it comes to some simple burglary‑prevention steps as the days start to get longer.
Lighter evenings can mean more days out in the sun but it also does mean more opportunities for burglars. A few quick checks can make a big difference:
🔒 Lock up - Always double‑check windows and doors before you head out, even if you’re only gone a short time. 💡 Use timer lights - Create the impression that someone’s home as daylight hours change. 🏡 Keep valuables out of sight - Don’t leave laptops, keys, or handbags visible from the street. 🌳 Plant defensive hedging - Make it that step more difficult for criminals to access your windows. 👀 Look out for neighbours - A connected community is a safer one.
Inspector Rob Staplehurst Tandridge Borough Commander
CRIME REPORTS IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD
Our Response Team and Safer Neighbourhood Team deal with a variety of incidents. Here are a few they dealt with since the last Bulletin.
A group of car thieves have been jailed for their part in the thefts of high-performance vehicles in both Surrey and Sussex last year. All four were charged and pled guilty to conspiring to steal motor vehicles.
The gang targeted grey Audi RS model vehicles at addresses in Stoneleigh in Surrey and Copthorne in Sussex - breaking into the owners’ houses as they slept specifically to steal their car keys and then driving off in the vehicles.
They were caught when officers on patrol spotted an unattended grey Audi RS4, on the same day as one of the offences, parked up in Chipstead. They conducted some checks and discovered the registration plates were cloned. Whilst they were there, the four offenders came back to the car but on seeing the officers, ran off, and were captured after a brief foot chase.
PC Joe Brown said: “During the foot chase they tried to throw away car keys connecting them to this vehicle, but these were recovered along with another set belonging to a second stolen car. “We know vehicle theft has increased but we are working hard every day to identify and catch the offenders who are targeting them.”
At Guildford Crown Court on April 17th three of the group were sentenced to the following: - Romaine Simpson, 27 (DOB 10/02/1999) from Sutton, was sentenced to two years and seven months. - Charlie Hart, 24 (DOB 22/09/2001) from Croydon, was sentenced to two years and three months. - Kayden Brown, 20 (DOB: 01/04/2006) from Carshalton, was sentenced to 16 months in a Young Offenders Institution. • A 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced in an earlier hearing at Staines Magistrates’ Court in February and received a Youth Referral Order for 12 months, a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order and was disqualified from driving for 16 months.
There were 36 Arrests in the period April 20th 2026 to May 3rd 2026 : Domestic Abuse / Violent Domestic Abuse 12 , Violent Crime Other 3 , Theft 1 , Drunk/Drug in charge 1 , Child at Risk 1 , Public Order 5, Knife/Blade Possession in Public Place 1, Prescribed Limit Offence 2, Alcohol Related 1, Drug Related 1, Robbery 1, Violent Crime Public Place 7 .
On April 25th officers were called in the early hours of the morning by a member of the public to a car parked at Blindley Heath with the engine running and the male driver slumped over the wheel. It transpired the car had been stolen from the MET police area. On searching the vehicle registration plates from other vehicles, and a large pair of bolt cutters were discovered. The male was arrested for going equipped to steal, handling stolen goods and hate related public order.
ON April 29th in Godstone a vehicle was stopped as it was suspected of being overweight. The male driver was subsequently arrested after failing a drug test.
On May 6th a car was stopped in Smallfield after checks indicated it was not taxed and because the nearside rear brake light was not working. After detecting a strong smell of cannabis a roadside drunk swipe was conducted and the male driver was arrested after he tested positive.
